A few things about Holi

Holi marks full moon day of Phagun, the 12th month of the Hindu calendar. The festival of Holi is known as the festival of colors or the festival of love. It has become a popular festival in other parts of the world as well. Being as big a country as India is, it is natural that the customs of the festival vary from part to part. There are different forms of the Holi Festival across India. The Lathmar Holi Festival in Barsana involves men with shields being beaten by women and bamboo sticks. During the celebration, the men attempt to fight the women off by sprinkling them with colored chalks.

The Holi Cow festival in Delhi celebrates Holi in a modern way. It's like a music festival with live performance and traditional multi-colored powder throwing. Jaipur 2019s Holi Elephant Festival, features elaborately painted elephants, elephant polo, and tug of war. Holi is known as Dolyatra in West Bengal. It is the last festival of the Bengali calendar and is very special. On this day, the legend of Krishna and his Radha are celebrated, for it is believed that it was on this day that Lord Krishna expressed his love for Radha. In Odisha, traditions are similar as in Bengal except that here idols of Lord Jagannath are worshipped and placed in the swings, instead of idols of Radha and Krishna.
